Traditionally, Tudor style homes feature steep, triangle roofs quintessential to their design, often layered from top to bottom in red brick. These gable roofs are a staple within Tudor homes. Tall windows contribute to their older, 17th-18th century English design that are often highlighted with a perimeter of wood. These homes often have interiors to match their older outside, rife with vintage wood panels and beams. The Modern Tudor, however, gives these homes and updated and rejuvenated feel that still pays homage to the timeless and historic look of these homes. While celebrating and respecting the original design and exterior on the outside, utilizing its signature staples in its roof shape and design, the home’s inside is revamped with a modern sleekness that replaces the medieval and archaic design of before with a stunning and confident interior that reflects advancement in modern home design while never crossing lines in its celebration of its roots. Brighter and lighter colors are used to give a current feel that breathes new life into these homes. Older aspects and materials of the home are often preserved to break up and soften the home’s interior and prevent it from feeling as if its strayed too far from its roots. An impressive meld of a classic and modern, the Modern Tudor will leave you feeling nostalgic but comfortable in its design.

Choosing to design and build a home is a tremendous financial commitment. It does not begin and end with the initial price of the home, either. Instead, adjustments and budget increases are a necessary part of the process. Whatever you initially anticipate spending on a new home design and build, be sure that you have budgeted for additional funds that will likely be required. During the course of a build there are many mitigating factors to consider. Depending on economic conditions, the price of materials could increase. It is also possible that a desired feature may need to be tweaked due to a backorder, manufacturer’s issue, or some other unforeseen circumstance. A good builder will keep you informed of changing costs, new developments, and the need to make some unexpected changes. As a home owner, you need to be prepared to handle changing circumstances and be able to roll with the changes. You want to ensure that you have a builder who will consult you for feedback while giving you his or her professional recommendations. Be prepared to combine your thoughts and plans with the information presented to you by your build team. Above all, remember that your builder is on your team. He or she is working to give you the best possible home according to your budget, your desires, and the resources available to them. Parts of the process will be stressful. Be prepared for that, but be sure that you have a builder that you trust who can help you work through the issues and mitigate situations as best as possible. At Nu-Era Construction, our goal is to build the home of your dreams. In every situation we will work to make sure that things stay on track as best as possible. Our desire is to finish your home on budget, on time, and in accordance with your vision. When you are designing and building a house, you need a partner on whom you can rely. Nu-Era is that partner. Designing a home can be both a challenge and a joy. Determining the right feel and look can seem overwhelming, but that is why it is important to work with a team who can help you make choices that are both current and timeless. While there may be a temptation to design a home that fits with the present trends, it is important to remember that a home is not like an outfit – it cannot be quickly and easily changed when it goes out of style. At Nu-Era, we pride ourselves on designing and building homes that fit the current styles, but will be able to stand the test of time. Our focus is on constructing houses with clean finishes, fewer time specific details, light colors, and fresh finishes. These types of homes are appealing and fit in with the types of homes being built currently – craftsman style, for instance – but will undoubtedly not look out of place in twenty to thirty years. Finding a builder who can help you create a long-lasting home style is important. When you are building a home you are planning to live there for decades, not years. You want to be sure that your home will be as beautiful and functional in the future as it is the day the build is complete. For the best in current and long-lasting home building, call Ne-Era Construction. Our design team and builders are anxious to work with you to create a home that you and your family can take pride in for years to come.

Once you’ve decided to build a home, the floor plan is one of the first things to consider. It could easily be the most significant decisions you make during the building process. Thinking about the flow of rooms is extremely important, it can affect the experience and enjoyment of your entire home. A good floor plan can enhance your life, maximize space, and airflow to create a home that anyone will love, however, a bad floor plan will feel cramped, dark, and uninviting. Underestimating how important the ‘flow’ is can even affect how much you can sell your home for later on. So as you begin the process of building your new home, here are some things to consider as you start the floor plan. A) Base your floor plan off your style. Your style has to come into play far before you start choosing paint colors and buying furniture. Think about how you want your home to look as the floor plan is being made and don’t assume that every floor plan will fit every family of every style. Your neighbor may have a beautiful open home, but your household may value privacy over open concept. B) If you’re looking at a model home, don’t get caught up in the decor. Sure, the appliances, the oriental rug, and the sparkling countertops are nice, but those won’t be in your home. The builders have put them there to let you see what your home could look like after. You need to strip away the layers to see the basic build. Pay close attention to where the doors are, how the rooms flow, and if there’s enough space. C) Understand that no floor plan is perfect, but modifications are an option. You might really want the master bedroom to be a few feet wider, but you have to give up that square footage somewhere else. Sacrifices have to be made in other areas to get some things to fit, but don’t forget you can modify. Last, but not least, don’t be afraid to ask for help. It can be difficult to understand all the drawings, different shapes, and seemingly random numbers. If you don’t understand, make sure to ask. Design professionals, realtors, contractors, they’re all here to help you. If you don’t understand the floor plan or you want a second opinion, they know the industry better than anyone else. Once you’ve decided to build your home, give us a call at Nu-Era Construction. We want to give you the custom home of your dreams, with the perfect floor plan.

Choosing a contractor is a job by itself, and you want to be sure to pick wisely. Even with a great contractor, building a home can be stressful. You never know what you’ll find when you pull up flooring or knock out a wall, rotting subfloors or dangerous electrical wiring might be lying in wait. Surprises hide behind every decision and a bad contractor can mean a botched project. The last thing you want to do is sacrifice more time and money on a failed job. It's an unfortunate problem in the home improvement industry, but to improve your home, you first have to improve the person doing the work. Here are some quick tips to make sure you choose the right contractor. Ask for references. Friends, family, and co-works are the people you trust, so ask if they know anyone. People who have done similar projects are the best sources untapped resource. They’ll be able to tell you if they loved their contractor, or if you should run for the hills. Also check the National Association of the Remodeling Industry for a list of certified members working in your area. If you have the opportunity, also speak with a building inspector. They’ll know which contractors routinely meet code requirements and which ones cut corner. Get more than one quote. It’s a good idea to get a minimum of three quotes. Even if you know your contractor, you’ll learn a little from each interview. And don’t automatically go for the lowest quote. There might be a negative reason why they’re willing to do the work for so much less and you don’t want them doing compromised work for a lower price. Check their licenses, and any history of complaints and litigation. Your contractors should be licensed, but the requirements may change depending on your state. Ask your contractor for a copy of his license and copies of the licenses of the subcontractors who will be working on your home. Don’t forget to check disciplinary board records, Better Business Bureau and local court records for any problems that the contractor may have had with previous clients. Talk to your contractor. There are plenty of horror stories where contractors ran off before finishing a job the way it was meant to be done. Speak up immediately if you have any concerns and don’t let them brush it off. This is your home and everything should be done to your standard. Speak to your contractor frequently, and make sure everything is proceeding on time and to plan. Nu-Era Construction is committed to providing our clients with high quality homes. We will communicate with you every step of the way and won’t accept anything less than the best. We want to create the custom home that you have always dreamed of. Our homes at Nu-Era Construction allow you to build a house with a design that works for you. A custom built home is a way to get what you have always wanted instead of being confined to a floor plan that doesn’t truly offer all that you want. We take the time to listen to the homeowners in order to create a home they will truly love, so please consider us as you look for contractors to help build your perfect home.
